Nootropics - a Noo fad?

Nootropics - a Noo fad?

Nootropics  - a noo fad?

We’ve seen these a lot recently; read about them, seen them on social and TV but honestly? We never really got what it was all about. Until now…

Why these weren’t in our lives sooner, we don’t know… A firm favourite here at PnP HQ for so many reasons. Before we spit lyrics about how good London Nootropic Adaptogenic Coffee actually is, we thought it was worth just going back to basics on what on earth it actually is…

Let’s break it down

Nootropics

These are natural substances, like caffeine, that can boost memory, motivation, retain your focus and increase your creativity whilst helping with mild anxiety by positively altering the way in which your brain functions. How? Nootropics improve the circulation of blood and oxygen to your brain, which then helps the brain convert glucose to energy, optimising your signals and neurotransmitters within the brain.

These are not something you can buy as a substance or product, Nootropics is a catch all term we use to describe lots of substances - caffeine is one for example.

Looking to feel better?

Adaptogens are your friend when it comes to feeling better about ourselves. There are lots of things these plant and mushroom legends do; reduce stress by restoring balance and fighting all types of stressors - biological and physical, reducing our anxiety and tiredness by adapting to specifically what our bodies need. Clever things.

Why are they good for hormone symptoms?

As we’ve seen above, the ever familiar fatigue, anxiety, stress that hormonal imbalance gives us, can be helped by both nootropics and adaptogens. Feeling a little more ourselves is what we all want when we are struggling with perimenopause or PMS so we’re pleased these beauties are available to us.

Amanda Callenberg, a nutritionist at London Nootropics says:

‘A lot of the time, extra hormonal imbalances can fire up symptoms. You know when you’ve tossed and turned all night and up your caffeine intake to compensate? Or when you crack open a bottle of wine to unwind in the evening? All of these ‘quick fixes’ can worsen PMS symptoms, sending cortisol levels skyrocketing.

While adaptogens won’t prevent PMS or period symptoms, they’re said to help the body and mind naturally adjust to them. This is achieved by:

  • Regulating cortisol levels
  • Improving mental & physical endurance
  • Decreasing stress & anxiety
  • Supporting adrenal function
  • Helping with mental clarity & focus

  • There are many adaptogens out there, maybe we’ll do further blogs on this subject but for now, we want to concentrate on the wonders that London Nootropic Adaptogen Coffee brings us and how we could and should incorporate those into our lives if we’re already a fan of caffeine or caffeine sensitive.

Here’s a breakdown on the blends and what each one contains to help you, plus our view on them too!

When you need… the fog to lift…Flow Adaptogenic Coffee

Crashing through perimenopause, we have brain fog in spades, bad memory and a ‘slow’ brain can be frustrating and stressful at times. This is our go to when working and we can literally feel the fog lifting.

Lions Mane Mushroom - this is a ‘brain mushroom’. Helps with our memory and gives us that mental clarity. Research suggests they may stimulate the growth of new brain cells, improve depression & anxiety, and support gut, heart, and immune health. There is also evidence to suggest this helps those in perimenopause in areas such as irritability and concentration (send us a load please…)

Rhodiola - helps with cognitive and physical performance. Traditionally, it was used to increase endurance and to treat fatigue.

When you need… that hypothetical kick up the ass…Mojo Adaptogenic Coffee

This is a favourite here before we hit the gym or after a bad nights sleep. It seems to have the effect we need without the crash that a strong espresso shot historically gave us…

Cordyceps - this little beauty is known for making us feel more energised, increase our oxygen flow and our aerobic capacity. It has also been known to boost our ATP (what delivers energy to our muscles) plus boost our immune system.

Siberian Ginseng - this is another energising godsend that is also good for blood flow.

When you need… to feel calmer and more balanced…Zen Adaptogenic Coffee

This is our go to when there is a lot going on around us and it starts to feel a little overwhelming.

Ashwagandha  - probably the Beckham of the adaptogen world. Everyone seems to have heard of this one - it’s earned that right too. This is a real hormone balancer- reducing levels of the stress hormone cortisol which as it says, makes us feel less stressed and anxious. What is also interesting here is caffeine can increase our cortisol levels so when it’s combined with Ashwaganda, we get that ‘high’ from the coffee without the jitters and the crashes.

CBD - mention this in front of the older folks and they immediately think you’re addicted to cannabis. Actually, this is found in marijuana but it doesn’t have the other things needed to give that high people seek. Instead, it is added to help with our endocannabinoid system, without the biology lesson, this is great for calming us and for our stress and managing anxiety

Why we all need a bit of London Nootropic Adaptogen Coffee in our lives…

We love, love working with these guys. They are enthusiastic, pretty cool and know their shit. Their product is a no brainer to us in our stage of life. We even take sachets away with us - sure beats hotel Nescafe sachets…

We don’t tend to drink much coffee after 2pm and we recommend you stick to this too if you can but we find 1-2 sachets a day is enough for us. They taste delicious  - less harsh than a standard coffee. We take ours black and we definitely feel our stomachs thank us for it, but feel free to have it with your favourite milk (or alternative)..

We have had outstanding feedback at our training sessions where we sample these  - they really have got it right.

Get in touch if you want a sample or to buy a mixed set to try the 3 varieties we have chatted about today. They make a great gift for yourself or another coffee lover. We have given as presents to husbands, friends, parents and we’ve not heard anything negative. That is quite something.
